Minecraft 1.19 Ore Distribution (Graph) - Best levels for each ore (2023)

The game's 1.18 update saw a massive overhaul of the way ores were generated in your Minecraft world. The same has remained consistent for version 1.19 of the game.

Gone are the days when you could find and stack a ton of diamonds just by mining to Y level 12.

The more recent updates introduced the possibility of negative Y tiers in the overworld, significantly changing the mechanics of ore generation.

While the 1.18 update completely overhauled Ore Distribution, version 1.19 also saw some minor changes with the addition of the new Deep Dark biome.

These changes are particularly visible in diamonds and it has become very noticeable how the resource is becoming increasingly scarce.

Below is a detailed guide to the ore distribution system in 1.19 of the game, along with ore details.

Minecraft 1.19 ore distribution

Minecraft 1.19 Ore Distribution (Graph) - Best levels for each ore (1)

Minecraft 1.19 distributes ores in a triangular geometry. Associated with each ore is a distribution level, which represents a range of levels between a minimum and a maximum number.

Ore generation probability increases/decreases as you move between these number ranges.

The best area to find an ore is the midpoint between this minimum and maximum distribution.

To better understand this, the minimum value in this area is the first level of the overworld on which the resource can be generated.

On the other hand, the maximum value is the last level where this ore can be found.

Beyond these two levels you will never find the resource.

Also, these two extremes have the lowest percentage chance of containing this ore.

However, as you move between these two tiers, the chances of this ore production begin to increase.

This opportunity becomes greatest when you reach the midpoint between these two extremes.

For example, if a resource is assigned a distribution range of 10-30, this means that the midpoint - 20 - is the most likely level to contain that ore.

Now that you have a better understanding of how the distribution system works, let's move on to the details.

coal distribution

Coal is most plentiful at Y level 96 in Minecraft 1.19. This ore has the longest spread range in the entire game.

Coal can be generated anywhere between Y levels 256 to 0.

The level range of 80-100 has the highest chance of containing this ore, with level 92 being the optimal spot. Split mining is an efficient option here.

Coal actually has two distribution options, as can be seen in the graphic. It generates first in mountain tops, starting at Y-level 256 and ending at 136.

This distribution does not follow the triangular pattern and instead has a constant generation rate throughout.

Therefore, your chances of finding coal between these tiers in relation to the first range remain the same throughout.

In the second distribution option, however, coal follows the same triangle pattern as other ores.

It starts generating at Y-level 192 and goes down to Y-level 0.

In this area, Coal is most commonly found at Y levels 96 and 95.

Alternatively, you can also try mining at Y level 136, where these two distribution values overlap, giving you a good chance of encountering this ore.

redstone distribution

Minecraft 1.19 Ore Distribution (Graph) - Best levels for each ore (3)

In Minecraft 1.19, Y Level -59 is the best area to search for Redstone.

Redstone can be found between Y levels 15 to -64, and the chances of spawning increase the deeper you go underground.

To mine Redstone efficiently while avoiding Bedrocks, Y-Level -59 is the optimal choice.

Similar to Coal, Redstone also has 2 distribution systems.

First, Redstone appears at Y level 15 and goes down to level -63. In this range, it has an even generation probability among all levels.

In the second scenario, Redstone generates in a triangular shape from Y level -32 to -63. The generation probability increases steadily the further down you go.

This means that Y level -63, which is the last possible level, technically has the highest chance of Redstone spawning.

However, this is still not the best level to mine for this ore as it is completely interspersed with bedrock.

Bedrock is unbreakable, making your mining expedition highly inefficient.

Therefore, to avoid Bedrocks and still have a good chance of getting Redstone, you should mine to Y level -59.

iron distribution

Minecraft 1.19 Ore Distribution (Graph) - Best levels for each ore (4)

Iron is most commonly found at Y level 15 in Minecraft 1.19. It is generated in three different capacities, and each of them contains Iron Ore at different levels.

Y-level 232 also has a significant chance of containing iron, but its high value means it's only found in huge mountains and mountaintops.

As the diagram shows, iron is distributed in three different systems. It can be found evenly spaced from Y-Level 64 to -63.

In the second case, it follows the triangular propagation starting at Y-level 54 and ending at -24.

Here 15 is the tier most likely to be generated, and also the most efficient for finding Iron among all three distributions.

In the last distribution, iron is contained in Y levels 80 through 319. This also follows the triangle geometry with the Y plane 232 being the optimal location to find this ore.

However, this level is exceptionally high. That means you'll only find Iron here when you come across huge mountain peaks and peaks.

These aren't the most common, and for this reason, Y level 15 proves to be the best level to farm Iron Ore efficiently.

Also, Large Veins of Iron are produced anywhere below Y-Level 0 - these can also be an excellent source for finding this ore.

Lapislazuli

Minecraft 1.19 Ore Distribution (Graph) - Best levels for each ore (5)

The best place to find Lapis Lazuli in Minecraft 1.19 is Y Level -1. Lapis lazuli is produced in both triangular and regular shapes.

Both overlap at the same level. Taking this into account, the highest probability of generation occurs at Y-level -1.

Similar to charcoal and redstone, lapis lazuli is created in two streams - triangular and regular.

It is distributed evenly over the Y levels 64 to -64. On the other hand, it follows the triangle pattern from level 32 to -32.

Both distributions overlap, which is very convenient.

This essentially means that the probabilities of these two systems generating Lapis Lazuli are combined if you mine for that ore in their level ranges.

For the even system, you don't need to search at any particular level because all probabilities are equal.

In the second system, the apex of the triangle is at Y level -1.

This means that Y-level -1 has the highest probability from the triangle system combined with the even system's probability of generating lapis lazuli within it - making it your target area for finding this ore.

copper distribution

Minecraft 1.19 Ore Distribution (Graph) - Best levels for each ore (6)

The best place to find copper ore in Minecraft 1.19 is Y level 48. Copper ore has a significantly higher generation rate in stalactite caves.

Therefore, Caves that occur at Y-Level 48 have the highest probability of containing Copper Ore.

It can also be found in Copper Veins spawned under Y-Level 0.

Unlike the previously mentioned ores, Copper only has 1 system by which it is created.

It first appears at Y level 112 and is last generated at level -16. It also follows the triangular shape of probability, peaking at level 48.

This makes Y level 48 the best place to look for copper ore.

Like iron, a large amount of copper can be found in veins that produce below Y-level 0. These are usually quite large and contain tons of this resource!

Finally, for some reason, copper ore is very common in stalactite caves. These caves greatly increase the production rate of this ore.

Putting all of this together, the most efficient way to grow copper ore is by searching stalactite caves in Y Tier 48.

(Although these caves are rare to find, finding one should not be your top priority).

gold distribution

Minecraft 1.19 Ore Distribution (Graph) - Best levels for each ore (7)

Gold is generated in 3 different batches spread across different tiers. Overall, gold is most efficiently found at the Y level -16 under normal conditions.

It is even more common in Y levels 256 through 32; However, this is only limited to the Badlands biome.

Similar to iron, there are three distribution systems associated with gold ore. Two of these are evenly spaced while one is a triangular pattern.

In the case of the triangular pattern, gold is found between Y levels 32 to -64.

The midpoint here is -16. Therefore, this level has the highest probability of generating gold ore.

However, gold has another generation condition in this area, which is that it only appears in areas with reduced air exposure.

This means it can only be found in narrow areas and is rarely seen in massive cavities.

In the case of the even systems, the first gold from the Y levels distributes -48 to -64.

It has a moderate chance of dropping Gold Ore and should be the least prioritized of all three distros.

The second straight system has the highest probability of containing gold ore. It creates the resource between Y levels 256 through 32.

The only problem here is that this only applies to the Badlands biome and is not generated in any other terrain.

Without this condition, this system would have been the best for prospecting for gold.

Keeping all of this in mind, it turns out that Y level -16 is the most reliable source of gold ore, although the second even distribution has a much higher chance of containing the resource.

diamond distribution

Minecraft 1.19 Ore Distribution (Graph) - Best levels for each ore (8)

The best area to mine diamonds in Minecraft 1.19 is Y Level -59. Diamond is one of the rarest resources in the game and only appears in one distribution.

Therefore, apart from -14 to -63, there are no other level ranges for mining diamonds. The highest generation probability in the range is seen at the Y level -59.

Diamonds tend to follow the triangular distribution pattern. They are first found at Y level -14 and last seen at level -63.

As with Redstone, Diamond Ore's generation probability increases the deeper you go underground.

Technically, the highest chance of finding this ore is in the lowest layer. However, in this case, the same logic applies as with Redstone. (The bedrocks there make mining difficult)

In this area, the best possible level for finding diamonds is -59.

Even then, diamonds are extremely rare, and unless you follow thatright strategies, you may never find them!

Emerald Distribution

Minecraft 1.19 Ore Distribution (Graph) - Best levels for each ore (9)

The optimal location for mining emeralds in Minecraft 1.19 is Y level 236. Emerald is the rarest naturally occurring resource in the game.

It generates between Y-planes 320 and -16 and has the highest probability of being generated on Y-plane 236.

Because of these special circumstances, emeralds can be very difficult to find. They only have a real chance of generating in large mountains.

Note that this only applies to naturally generated ones. You can find some of these in other ways, e.g. B. by trading with villagers.
